About the Service
A skin biopsy is a quick, minimally invasive procedure where a small sample of skin tissue is removed and analyzed to diagnose suspicious moles, rashes, infections, or skin cancers (like melanoma). At Elite Style Polyclinic, our dermatologists use advanced techniques (punch, shave, or excisional biopsies) to ensure precise results with minimal scarring. The extracted tissue is examined under a microscope in a certified lab, providing definitive answers about your skin condition.
How it Works
Step 1: Consultation & Lesion Evaluation
Your dermatologist assesses the suspicious area (mole, patch, or growth) and determines the best biopsy method.
Step 2: Numbing & Sample Collection
Local anesthesia is applied, and a small skin sample is taken (takes 5–10 minutes).
Step 3: Lab Analysis
The sample is sent to a dermatopathology lab for microscopic examination (results in 5–7 days).
Step 4: Diagnosis & Treatment Plan
Your doctor explains the results and recommends next steps (e.g., removal, medication, or monitoring).
Ideal Candidates for Treatment
- Patients with changing moles (asymmetry, color shifts, or growth)
- Unexplained rashes or sores that don’t heal
- Suspected skin cancer (basal cell, squamous cell, or melanoma)
- Chronic skin conditions (psoriasis, lupus) needing confirmation
- Infections (fungal, bacterial) requiring lab identification
While most patients see significant improvement, those with extremely deep scars or certain medical conditions (e.g., keloid tendency, pregnancy) require a customized approach. During your consultation, our dermatologists will evaluate your skin’s needs and adjust treatments for optimal safety and results.

The treatment targeted areas of concern and helped to improve the texture and firmness of my skin, but most importantly, the staff knew what they were doing.

Quick answers to questions you may have
Q1: Does a skin biopsy hurt?
A: You’ll feel a slight pinch from the anesthetic needle—the biopsy itself is painless.
Q2: Will I have a scar?
A: Most biopsies leave a small mark (like a freckle). Excisional biopsies may leave a fine-line scar.
Q3: How do I care for the biopsy site?
A: Keep it clean/dry for 24 hours; apply antibiotic ointment. Avoid sun exposure until healed.
Q4: What if the results are cancerous?
A: We’ll discuss full removal options (e.g., Mohs surgery) and coordinate with oncologists if needed.
Q5: Can I shower after a biopsy?
A: Yes, after 24 hours—pat the area dry gently.
